In October 2020, Charlotte City Council adopted the Safety and Accountability for Everyone (SAFE) Charlotte plan, which included recommendations to re-imagine policing and make our city safer. The first recommendation in that report was to provide funding to community organizations to address violent crime in our neighborhoods.

Creating and sustaining a city where all residents feel safe requires collaboration, innovation, and holistic support for the community. It requires organizations to work together to create a stable, supportive environment that mitigates the underlying causes of violence and promotes economic mobility.

With funding from the City of Charlotte, United Way of Central Carolinas invites collaborative, cross-sector proposals addressing the root causes of violence and promoting greater access to opportunity. Funding has been provided to support the planning for and implementation of four collaborative proposals.

The SAFE Charlotte application process is currently closed.
