Thank you to the entire Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force and specifically to co-chairs Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown and Dee O’Dell for your incredible leadership over the past two years. The countless hours you’ve invested and incredible passion you’ve shown for our community have set the foundation for a brighter future for our friends, families and neighbors.
This report represents a starting point for Charlotte to come together to begin the work that will provide opportunity for all. As a health and human services leader, United Way is excited to get started on implementation. We are already working on some of the recommendations with our community partners. In other areas, we will be developing a strategic approach and aligning our work and resources to meet the need and lift people up.
We know this isn’t going to be a quick fix. It’s going to take time. It’s going to take resources. And it’s going to take patience. But, we are excited to shift the direction now to what we’re going to do and how we’re going to do it. We look forward to engaging our community and corporate partners to be a part of the solution, and to serving all of Charlotte as a leader for activation.
At the end of the day, our success as an organization and community will be measured in our ability to provide opportunity for all. We ask everyone to join with us in making sure that happens today and for future generations to come.
