New funding available for groups willing to lead community healing and create opportunities

Unite Charlotte, a community fund established in response to the recent unrest in Charlotte, will support programs and organizations focused on community healing, rebuilding trust, and creating opportunities in Mecklenburg County.

Organizations wishing to help heal our community and create opportunities were invited to apply for funding through a grant application process. After a series of four community information meetings, the application period opened on Jan. 10 and closed on Feb. 17 at noon. Grant requests will be evaluated in March.

Initially supported by a $250,000 donation from Wells Fargo and a $100,000 donation from Duke Energy, followed by a lead gift from the Knight Foundation and others, the Unite Charlotte fund is housed at United Way of Central Carolinas. It is being administered through a partnership with Foundation For The Carolinas and has an advisory committee consisting of leaders from the faith, education, and business communities, as well as community-based organizations and donors.
